Alto's Adventure — Remastered in Apple Arcade

Our Site Score

96/100

Alto's Adventure is, without a doubt, one of the most important and beautiful mobile games ever created. This Remastered version on Apple Arcade is the perfect excuse to revisit it. The core mechanic is elegantly simple—a one-touch control system where holding the screen makes you flip. Yet, within that simplicity lies an incredibly deep, physics-based momentum system. Chaining together a backflip over a chasm directly into a grind across a bunting line, then landing perfectly to speed away from a chasing elder, feels remarkably satisfying.

The audiovisual presentation is where the game truly shines as a masterpiece. The transition from a bright, sunny afternoon into a terrifying thunderstorm, and eventually into a serene, moonlit night, is breathtaking. The piano-driven soundtrack dynamically shifts with the action, creating a genuinely meditative experience. It’s one of the few games where failing a run doesn't feel frustrating; it just means you get to drop into the beautiful world again.

The inclusion of Zen Mode, which removes the score, elders, and game-over screens, is brilliant. If you hit a rock, Alto simply gets back up. It transforms the game into a pure relaxation tool. This is an essential download; it is mobile gaming perfected.

Dinsun Review

I’ve played many endless runners in my time, and most of them are garbage—just flashy distractions designed to make you click ads. Alto’s Adventure: Remastered is different. It’s tasteful. The visual style is minimalist and elegant, and the way the time of day shifts as you ski down the mountain is genuinely impressive. It’s one of the few games I’ve played where I didn't mind losing because the 'zen mode' is just as enjoyable as the main game.

However, it’s still an endless runner. You’re doing the same jumps and backflips over and over. The progression can feel like a grind, and some of the goals are more about luck than skill. It’s a great 'coffee break' game, but it doesn't have the depth for a long session. It’s a refined, conservative 79—excellent for what it is, but limited by its genre.
